About this piece:

Styx, scored for soprano voice and piano, was written for SongSlam in Minneapolis, wining 3rd prize. Librettist Natalie Nelson described the scene of the text as a lone boat floating on an unspecified body of water. From this imagery, I explored wave-like motions in the piano resembling the ecosystem presented throughout the text. The soprano’s voice symbolizes the narrator of the story, and, in my mind, is the figure guiding the boat.
